Hi Jung,
another “soldier’s song”. Cheesy, sad and beautiful. I think the melody and melodramatic make this song something special. I like Mike Batt’s handwriting.

Imagine that one day the famous fairy from the tale knocks on your door and tells you that you have three wishes. And one of these wishes should have something to do with vacation and travel. Where in the world have you always wanted to go? What would be one of your dream destinations (also from a musical point of view) ?

Hi Jung, glad to hear you had a great few days on Vancouver Island. I know the golden goose only as a fairy tale from the Brothers Grimm („Die Goldene Gans“), which has now irritated me a little. And while we are on the subject of literature, the band Camel dedicated one of their albums to the novella “The Snow Goose” by Paul Gallico. The Snow Goose is a simple, briefly written parable about the regenerative power of friendship and love, set against the backdrop of the horrors of war. It documents the development of a friendship between Philip Rhayader, an artist who lives a solitary life in an abandoned lighthouse in the Essex marshes because of his disability, and a young local girl, Fritha. Together they find an injured snow goose, which they care for and which stands as a symbol of their lifelong affection and love for each other.

Good news Jung: I found the golden goose including her golden egg after all (at least in the song lyrics)

Hi Jung,
I hope you had a nice short vacation. Unfortunately, I can’t offer you a golden goose but maybe a red one ?
PS: why actual „Golden Goose“ ? Did I miss anything?

This song is also somehow about travelling, but about a long, varied and often surprising journey that we call life. „Starting Over“ is about a new start in life. Not from the beginning, but from where we once stopped, lost sight of our goals and have the feeling that we can’t go on. Throwing overboard established habits, loosening the shackles of everyday life and simply reflecting on the things that we have achieved so far in life, that are important and will always be valuable. Shared adventures, beautiful experiences and personal strength. Then to take off, to dare a new beginning. Thus strengthened, to continue the journey. Together with our loved ones, our friends and all the people who are important to us in life. Just like starting over.

A beautiful new discovery Leif. I’m always kind of sceptical when I see very young people with guitars producing themselves on youtube (and they started very young). I often wonder who is behind this music and whether it is sometimes not more about the attention than the music itself that is being played. But with these young women I have the feeling that they play music because they love it and not because they want to make themselves important. They seem to have real potential. I was browsing a bit on the internet and came across „Choke“ and „Evolve“. Powerful songs. Like them, thanks for sharing.

Hi Tom,
nice that you drop by again. And even nicer that you present a song from The Who. The somewhat different kind of wanderlust and a very special reason to travel and just get away. Apropos The Who: It does not quite fit the topic, but it’s still a nice song 🙂

I would like to dwell on the subject of river for a moment. It is only around 160 miles as the crow flies from the Vltava (Moldau) to the Danube (Donau). And that reminds me to the Viennese Waltz King Johann Strauss. He produced the first „dance and party hits“ in the 19th century. Fun Fact: Although Strauss composed such beautiful, danceable music he is said to have been a very bad dancer himself.

Yes, the music industry is constantly on the lookout for the golden goose. Because whoever owns it, it brings good luck and wealth (as in the fairy tale of the Brothers Grimm). The golden goose, in this case the musicians or bands are exploited until they lay no more golden eggs and then quickly dropped. This describes Todd Rundgren also in his song:
Everybody wants an egg from the golden goose
But no one cares if they’re the one who kills the golden goose
Everybody wants an egg from the golden goose
I wonder just how many eggs are in the golden goose?

David, you inspire me to nostalgic ideas. Very good. This song also has something to do with a goose, at least in terms of the title, well…

You’re welcome, Roger. 🙂 Here’s another vacation song from the late 80s:

Thank you. A great, gentle song that I didn’t know yet JP. I really like the arrangement with cello, saxophone and the choir. The plucked double bass is original. It reminds me of The Police. I googled Chico Marchan once. He has already had an extraordinary career. Together with many well-known musicians.
When I think of The Police and Sting, the following song comes to mind, which also describes a travel experience:

A beautiful song David. Longing, pain of parting and the hope of seeing each other again soon. Yes, a similar idea to Leaving on a Jet Plane. Only the story of the farewell is completely different. I didn’t know The Seekers’ version before. The Dubliners, an Irish folk band also played the song. The lyrics of their version are slightly different in places.
