Jung,
I’m a fan of Bob Marley too! I saw the group “Junior Marvin & the Wailers” in Honolulu last September, & they were wonderful! I’ve sometimes taught the song “Three Little Birds” in my younger music classes. You might enjoy this video I’ve showed them by Connie Talbot. I think it was recorder in 2007 when she was about 7 years old. It’s a cute version! — Bud

That is interesting!
I do have a copy of Lennon’s books titled “In His Own Write,” and “A Spaniard in the Works,” (ha-ha!) I’ll have to read them again after so many years. Writing today for kids is becoming a lost art, which is not a good trend!
I visited the British Museum in London twice. They have copies of some of Beethoven & Mozart’s actual original compositions. AND, some handwritten Beatle Music with lyrics, and believe the guitar chords too! They also have the original Magna Carta, which was the first document to limit the powers of the King & uphold the rights of the individual. (WE need more of that today for the rights of ALL people.) I had an ancestor that was a signer of the Magna Carta!

Thank you for posting this information about Beethoven & Bach! They were two of our greatest composers in the World, & their styles set Musical trends that last to this day! It’s almost like hearing them talk. It was such a different World back then, but reading Beethoven’s words gives us more insights into this great man. — Thanks again! — Bud

Jung,
You’re welcome! Your words ring true! It’s hard enough when someone passes who is up in years, & it’s still not easy. But when someone hasn’t lived out their full live yet, it is much harder to take. This may not be a consolation, but at least he’s been given time to prepare. He’s a very brave soul, & he’s lucky to have you for a friend! — Bud

David & Jung,
That’s a very nice song that the Monkees recorded here. I enjoyed that, thanks! How does time slip away so fast!
Here’s another appropriate song for this time of year. I think it’s one of the best of ABBA’s later songs.
There’s celebration, yet sadness as one couple had broken up, & the other was to divorce also.
I’m sure Mona & Lisa could do a nice version of this, but I don’t know that they would ever do an ABBA song. You don’t hear Pop songs like this anymore! (Except songs by the MLT’s!) — Bud -
Jung,
I am so sorry to hear about your sick friend! It’s just so unfair, especially for someone as nice as he is! It’s so very wonderful for you to help him through this especially difficult time! My heart goes out to both of you! Thanks for sharing this story. Life doesn’t always turn out the way we want it to, & we all need to appreciate the times we have together, & the things we do for others.
I pray that it will be easy for him when the time comes. You’re doing all you can, so take heart!

Hi again Jung, Daryl, Chris, Tim et al!
Did you ever see the video on the Irish dancing football player? Maybe you could just go to YouTube & look for it.
Here’s a Rock Horn Group I think you’ll like; another of my favorites! They’re like a Heavy Metal group with a screaming Trumpet section! The band was called “Chase,” named after the leader & 1st trumpeter, Bill Chase. He had played with Maynard Ferguson in the late ’50’s. It was a great group, but unfortunately, Bill Chase & the whole rhythm section died in a small plane crash in 1974. He was only 39. This is great piece called “Get It On.” I’ve played the easy version of this! My middle & high school Jazzers loved it!

Daryl,
Scotland, England & Wales are all very beautiful, but I think Wales is my favorite, although I’ve only been to North Wales, and stayed at Conwy Castle twice. Someday I want to go back, & yeah, the MLT’s are on my list too!!
Thanks! — Bud

Hey Daryl,
I don’t doubt that riding horses can be dangerous. I always wondered how people could ride their horses over rough, uneven terrain at a gallop, without taking a serious chance of injury. Particularly cavalry soldiers years ago. I read a Civil War story about a cannon ball going clean through a horse, while not touching the rider! Animals have suffered a lot at the hands of humans!
I just looked this up. Each year in the US, somewhere between 100 to 700 people are killed on horseback. But about 7 million ride horses. However, 42,939 people are killed in car crashes. So horses are dangerous, but maybe the Amish have it better & safer with horses?
I haven’t ridden for years, but I really used to enjoy it. It’s like hiking for me now. I try not take chances & do dangerous things. I fell off horses twice but was lucky to not get hurt.
Here’s another statistic: In Football, one concussion occurs every 5.5 games. 10% of college players & 20% of High School players sustain brain injuries. And in Football brain injuries account for 65 to 95 % of all fatalities. I did enjoy playing or directing Bands in Football games though!
I guess you just have to follow your passion and not take chances if possible! — Bud

Hi Chris,
Thanks for getting back to me! I looked at that Jazz radio station near you, & we have one here in Seattle & Tacoma, Wash called KNKX which is ALSO affiliated with NPR. So that’s what I listen to. They may not have some of the same programs as you do, such as “From Memphis to Motown,” but we get old & new Jazz, Blues, Latin Jazz, news, interviews & other programs. Their interviews tend to be more Pop & Rock, etc. but still interesting! It’s a good station but has its drawbacks. But it’s better than all the other alternatives!
I haven’t been able to replace my broken car CD player yet, so I do listen to YouTube at home a lot, & the radio in my car.
For me it’s a case of too much Music & too little time to listen at it! I looked up your wemu.org, but it suggested using !Tunes or an Android which I don’t use yet, at least! There is a lot of live Jazz in Seattle so no problem there! I tend to NOT go to local Rock clubs, although I used to play in them a lot! If I want to sing with the Beatles or Billy Joel, etc. I just put on a CD at home. But we go to BIG Rock concerts like Paul M, Ringo, Elton, etc. So like your area, this is a good part of the country for Music. I check up on newer POP Music on YouTube, but usually UGGHHH! it’s not a matter of being old fashioned; I just don’t waste my time with boring Music, new OR old! I DO like Cheryl Crow though!
I hope your new Year is a good one, & I’ll see you in the next MLT chat, whenever that will be!

Hi Chris,
I have nothing against Taylor. I watched about 10 videos of hers today. She has a very pleasant voice, dances very well, & I like her political views. I do wish she would write some interesting melodies though. I’m hearing a lot of very simple, repetitive melodies in major keys, especially using major pentatonic scales. These can be nice, & repetition CAN be beautiful. But they start sounding the same, & very similar to other current Pop songs out there.
It’s like those Hooks that Jung was talking about. I like to hear Music that makes me want to play or sing that particular song! But when I hear very simple repetitive melodies, (or NO melody,) it turns me off to a lot of the Pop/Rock or Rap Music out there. To me it’s either interesting or it’s not. I listen to a Jazz Radio station a lot. But I frequently turn it off if I hear something that’s just boring. 5 minutes later it’s usually better!
Sometimes I’ve gone all around the radio dial with my eyes rolling at the lack of interesting, & same old, same old new Music. I’ve been known to even go to a Classical station with more interesting Music & interviews!
There’s nothing wrong with having a variety of Music for people to appreciate. I don’t deny anyone their fame, & popularity. I just like to hear Music that’s varied, & has interesting Melodies, Harmonies & Rhythms, along with Feeling, Soul, & Personality, etc.
Here’s a group that captures my interest every time! Thanks for listening! — Bud

Daryl,
That’s for sharing your experience, you obviously had a great time! I have been to England 3 times, Scotland & Wales twice, & Ireland once. I also love their Pubs over there, & don’t drink much but I do enjoy a Guiness once in a while or a good English style bitter!
We went to Dublin, Athlone, the Cliffs of Moher & several other places rich in Irish history. We were taken to a Pub on Matthew Street in Liverpool by a few new friends & heard some wonderful traditional Irish Music! Plus, I’ve been to the Cavern Club, but BEFORE Mona & Lisa played there. DARN!
I will not ride on a motorcycle after two of my friends were hurt, (both of whom gave me a few scary rides,) & a coworker of mine’s son was killed on a motorcycle. I’m not trying to bring anyone down, but safety is worth more than thrills! I used to love horseback riding though, not that it can’t be dangerous!
The kind of visit you had was similar to mine, & it makes you want to go back! (SOMEDAY!)
CHEERS! (But with no booze.) — Bud
