Everyone here is so vague, but at least Steve knows his month!

It was 4/2/16 @ 7:05 pm when I was searching for a video of “When I’m 64” to send to my little brother who would be 64 in 4 hours and 55 minutes back then.

Obviously he has heard The Beatles’ original hundreds of times; big whoop!  I was searching for a cover and a good one.  I found one of a 4-man a cappella group, and they were quite entertaining.  YouTube auto-play was “on” and the next one was an audio-only of Barry Gibb of The Bee Gees singing it.  That one really cracked me up; lol!  So, I e-mailed the links to Tom and told him to “open his present” after midnight.

I went back to YouTube and on the right side of the page was something called “MonaLisa Twins.”  I think I saw those words months earlier, but figured it would just be rubbish and moved along.  This time I was curious, and opened the video link to “In My Life” which is one of my fave Beatles’ songs and part of my fave Beatles’ album.

I watched with my mouth agape, ears alert, and eyes wide open.  I asked myself; who are these girls?  Who are their parents?  Where are they?  I thought they were somewhat cute and very talented.  I saw from the date of publishing they were not quite 16 years old!

THEN, I saw her (them) standing there!  Singing what I was looking for; a GREAT COVER of “When I’m 64!!!”  Wavy blonde-haired Mona singing the lead and looking like a Hollywood starlet!  Long red-haired Lisa (with brown roots showing) doing backup.  Now 19 years old and what a difference 3 years had made in their appearance and talent!  I listened at least 4x in a row and then sent Tom another e-mail and said “Here bro, watch this one instead, and open it now!”

Because of this one evening sitting at my PC, all sorts of things have transpired differently in my life too numerous to mention; both good and bad.  From getting a Facebook account and staying up too late (like right now) and #gettingfatternotfitter, to my current status of being a Patreon patron and friend of Alyona Yarushina from Moscow, the greatest vocalist I have heard in my 68 years!

Heading for bed as the clock just struck 5:00 am in Omaha.  Don’t want to see the sunrise.  See what I mean, Jung?

Where is Howard?  You put up this thread at least a day ago!

So sorry, but I have nothing here.  Not because I don’t like MLT songs.  I truly do.  But I would not travel by bus across town for 20 minutes, much less stay in one for most of a week traveling across a continent.  Who are the fellow passengers, anyway?  And what other music is played in this communal bus stereo system?  72 hours of polka with accordion?  Which European countries and cities are you visiting?  Am I sitting next to a man who nose whistles, snores, smokes, and stinks?  Sorry, but not enough information for me.  I’ll sit this one out; thank you anyway.  Ask Itso!  Where’s Howard?

    Next question please, Jung!  😉

    Howdy Mike (Gary)!

Thanks for the heads-up!  Early Beatles were my fave and Rubber Soul my #1 vinyl album.

Wow, so the original Cavern opened when I was only 6 years old and in 1st grade!  I’m pretty certain I was not aware of it back then; lol!
My music in those days was Perry Como, Bing Crosby, Big Bands, etc.  My clubs were those hosted by Mickey Mouse, Cowboy Bob, and Howdy Doody!

Am I correct in recalling that the MLT Cavern was not the same as The Beatles Cavern?  Is it the same building at the same site and just renovated?  Or it is totally different with the same name?  I’m probably totally confused about that.  If you do not know, then surely Howard (Steve) will be here to answer.  Thanks!

  • So sorry Howard!

I sent you my revised TOP 20 last night and I totally forgot about THE COORS.  It was late and I was tired.  But again, this is SO difficult, because now I have omitted Norah Jones!  🙁

  • Hey, hi Howard!

Long time, no talk to buddy!  (I have not gone the way of Timmy or Picasso.  Not yet that is.)

Good news!  Since I started this thread, upon further review and reflection, my current listening habits, and their lifetime bodies of work, I have refined and tweaked my TOP 10 and made it a TOP 15.  This is more accurate and realistic, and reflects more than 5.5 decades of music.

    1  MOODY BLUES

    2  ABBA

    3  ALYONA YARUSHINA

    4  STEPS

    5  BEE GEES

    6  BEATLES

    7  MONALISA TWINS

    8  BEACH BOYS

    9  TRAVELING WILBURYS

    10  ROLLING STONES

    11  MICHAEL JACKSON

    12  THE WHO

    13  JETHRO TULL

    14  KATIE MELUA

    15  MILK’N BLUES

(I have omitted “The” in front of each band to which it applies, except for #12, for whom the “The” is usually verbalized.)

You are the first to know, my friend!  I will also post this is on my Facebook Timeline, for my friends there.  Some of them are also The World’s Greatest Music Fans along with you and me, and some of them are even here in this Club.

Cheerio and Pip Pip and all that Jazz!

P.S.  If I expand to a TOP 20, prog-rock would dominate:  Emerson, Lake, and Palmer; Electric Light Orchestra; Led Zeppelin; Pink Floyd; and Cream; and most likely in that order.  So ha ha; I guess you really do have my TOP 20!  I’m sure I am forgetting someone, so mentally go ahead and put them in #21 to #25.  Accept no substitutions, please!  😉

Ha ha, Tomas Miguel!  Nothing wrong with being a nerd, mi amigo mio.  Ha ha, if you look at my photo, there is no ito in my Miguel.  Mi llamo es Michael Edwin.  Michael = Miguel, pero what es Edwin?  Edward = Eduardo, pero what es Edwin?

I don’t know if you are a geek or a nerd, Tomas, but methinks you have way too much time on your hands; lol!  j/k j/k (kinda).

I should get to know you better before teasing.  You have some interesting comments.

My brother is Thomas, or Tom, or Tommy.  With our last name, back in the day his endearing nickname was “Tommy Tuba!”  I dearly love my little bro!  <3

Buenos noches, mi nuevo amigo, mio!

    Miguelito

  • Thanks Paul!

I am so very sorry you lost your wife and the love of your life.  If one of us has to go, I hope and pray it is me first.  (That is about the only time I would ever put myself ahead of her; that and darting in front of her to take a bullet.)  I’ll pray for you sir; that you can continue to cope with your dear family and friends, but especially with the strength from the God of All Comfort and His Beloved Son.

Wow; you have a Les Paul, Paul?  I know little about guitars (I play piano) but is that not the “Cadillac of Guitars?”  I know what you mean about the time.  I tried to get off Facebook and that lasted about 3 weeks.  🙁  Too many lovely friends, and I follow the World’s Greatest Vocalist there, on YouTube, and as a Patreon patron.  Please see my revised TOP 1o in my very next comment.  She is now #3.

    God bless you, sir!

    Mike

  • Great list Paul!  I was happy to see someone include  ELO and Emerson, Lake, and Palmer (they were my #8 for years until I found some of these newer artists via FaceBook and YouTube).  For a while I had 2 lists:  Pre-1990 and Post-1989.  It got to be convoluted.  I should be kind of like the guy here who does not list, but just has 3 main categories.  Mine would be:

    1. Artists I love i.e. The Moody Blues, ABBA, Bee Gees, Norah Jones, Alyona Yarushina, Michael Jackson, Traveling Wilburys etc. etc.

    2. Artists I like i.e. ELO, Three Dog Night, Grand Funk Railroad, Jethro Tull, Rolling Stones, Simon and Garfunkel, Beatles, etc. etc.

    3. Artists I hate and I won’t name any here, but there are several.

You have a great Top 3 and it is not unlike my brother Tom’s.  He has 1. Rolling Stones 2. Moody Blues 3. Beatles

Right now, mine is 1. Moody Blues 2. MLT. 3. ABBA.  Of course it is subject to change and it has, but Moody Blues will always be #1 and ABBA will always be Top 3.  The Beatles were #2 for decades, and I love most of their music, but some things about one or two of them I don’t particularly care for.  I don’t totally separate the music from the person and the personality.  But that is just me and my own viewpoint and prerogative.

I have a good buddy in Europe who has 1. Beatles 2. ABBA 3. Orishas 4. MLT.  So his #1 and #4 are the same as yours, but he cannot stomach Mick Jagger, and therefore is not a fan of The Stones; lol!

Thanks for your contribution here Mr. Wright!  (P.S. If you are a married man, did your wife once say, “I finally found Mr. Wright!”)  Sorry, buddy! 😉

Therefore Steve, she is a Nittany Lion while you, yourself are a Cougar?  My fave Pennsylvania hamlet is Latrobe, the home of the late, great Arnold Palmer!  Never been there, however!

We got at least 5″ of snow overnight in Omaha.  🙁  How much did you get?  Wait a minute; am I confusing you with Seattle Bob?  Sorry; I’m getting old.

  • Hello again Jung and Roe!  You have truly great comments, you and Howard!  With your motorcycles and muscle cars you guys truly are bad a—s!!!  My little brother Tom aka Thomas (aka Tomas en Espanol) was into Mustangs back in the day and his first was a 1965 in pale yellow color.  He graduated into 240, 260, and 280Z’s.  My fastest car was a 1967 Chevy Impala S/S with a 327 engine.  On the highway from Omaha to Lincoln I was ticketed going 87 mph in a 75 zone.  Good thing I slowed down from 120, eh?  My ticket was a mere $48, but still a lot for a 22-year old in 1973.  Imagine my fine if they had clocked me at 120!  It is a wonder any boys live to be 25-years old!

Thanks for helping eventually get this thread to 100!  I think that you and I and Howard are the main contributors.  When we get to 100 I will publish an itemized list.  Right now, this is comment #70 from 10 blokes.  Maybe Howard wants to get a pre-list of those 70?  He is “time-rich”, after all; lol!!!  Hi there, Howard! 😉

    Hey, hi Michael!

Methinks you just enumerated the greatest decade-plus in 20th Century music!  Your only glaring omission is The Moody Blues.  Beatles’ fans were celebrating the 50th Anniversary of “Sgt. Peppers” in 2017.  By contrast, The Moody Blues were actually performing their ground-breaking and historic album “Days of Future Passed” in live concerts all over Europe and America!

Your comment here would have been perfect for my thread “Is This Where I Ask Fellow Fans” in the General Discussion Forum.  Howard wants to keep that alive and be the first thread to reach 100; lol!

I myself am not too competitive though!  😉 Have a great weekend buddy!  We got 5″ of snow in Omaha overnight.  Great; shoveling is old, fat man’s greatest delight!  NOT!!!

  • Thank you Marián!  As a child I knew your country as Czechoslovakia, of course!  You are very near the area of Poland where my ancestors are from.  I remember my father Edwin talking about the town of Pilznow.  Recently I learned my family was from the southern regions of Malapolska and Swietokrzyskie.  I really need to research those further.

As a Slav, you might be even more closely related to me than Christomir in Ruse, Bulgaria!  You and I would be part of the West Slavs, whereas Itso is part of the South Slavs.  You do know Christomir (aka Itso) Rackov, correct?  Did you know that his #1 and #4 Band are the same as yours?  Later, my comrade!  I look forward to talking to you more in this groovy MLT CLUB!  🙂

  • Oops; now it is my turn to have a “senior moment’ Howard; lol!  It was not my “26 Questions” post I wanted to refer to; it is in “General Discussion” and the one about “Is this where I ask fellow fans.”  It is the one about what our Top 10 Bands are.  It is up to 59 and I’m about to make it 60.

Yeah, about the nicknames:  I was not really asking to be Mikey, but wanted to see if you had changed your mind about Howie.  I guess not; ha ha!  Maybe we can go to one syllable i.e. Mike, Jack, How, Jer, Rick, and even Leeze and Mone.  Or maybe not; LMAO!!!

  • Ha ha; JBJ it is then!  Yeah, PP does not sound so good; lol!  But Howard, I don’t want stats up on this one; this is Timmy’s thread!!!  Mine is the one about 26 Questions.  With you, can we go back to Howie or maybe Stevie?
