Hey Steve,
Well said. I couldn’t express it more eloquently than you did. So I’m just going to tag on here.
I got one today as well. What a nice surprise. These ladies…..the entire Wagner family…are not only talented but incredibly classy too.
The warmest of holiday greetings from soggy Western Washington.

Howard, it looks like you were cut off in paragraph 2. I hope you complete that thought.
As I recall, 45’s were like 79-cents (or something like that). And based on some of the vinyl I still have (with the price stickers intact), LP prices were around $3 or $4 in the early 60’s. Kind of expensive for a kid. So like you, my first ones were used too.
I remember trading some comic books to a kid in my neighborhood for a small box of miscellaneous singles. His older sister had gone off to college and left these records to him (or he helped himself). Anyway, I ended up with a bunch of Sinatra, Frankie Laine and Patti Page ….but also some semi-recent Elvis, Connie Francis and a few doo-wops. These were my first actual ‘rock’ records.

I admit I could be the outlier here. Tommy, I’m older than you and hoping I can find my car keys this morning. But I still remember those records. Also my student I.D. # from 1967 and all the lyrics from El Paso by Marty Robbins. That’s the kind of stuff that’s floating around in my head. Darryl, you’re right. I’ve never heard of Misex. But I bought that Men at Work album.

I did live in Portland from 1980-84. A great city with a great local music scene. Though I concur with your wife on the weather. It’s glorious in WA and OR for three months…then wet, gray and windy for nine.
I’ll look forward to seeing your video picks.

Hi Jung,
That is just a classic!! On that cover it looks like Butch has just eaten the trumpet player. Probably someone in the UW marching band.
I got over there in ’67, a couple years after your dad. We were a bit…uh, less than progressive terms of animal rights back then. We had an actual real deal LIVE cougar in a cage on campus…which you apparently saw. And they’d put the cage on a wagon and run him out there on game day in front of thousands of screaming football fans. Nerve wracking for the poor cat to say the least. If an opposing player went down with an injury, we’d all yell ‘Feed him to Butch’.
In the current era we have a guy in a big cougar costume, which is better for all concerned. I am not sure when that transition happened. I like to think the original Butch was eventually released back into the wild where he could happily terrorize farmers and their livestock. He deserved no less.
Great to hear there is another Cougar fan in the club.

Hi Michael,
Good to meet you.
I’m happy to have your opinion however you’d like to express it.
I started the thread about a month ago. But with all the good stuff to read on the blog, it sometimes takes awhile for folks to respond. I probably summarized the responses (above) a little prematurely. There were several lists after that. And of course we have new members coming on board adding to the sample size.
My thinking in originally asking that question was ALL videos….originals and covers included. Yeah, it’s tough to narrow it down to five. I had a hard time doing that myself.
Nope. Not a Husky. I’m a WSU Cougar (there are quite a few of us on this side of the Cascades).

Hi Martin – We appear to have an MLT fan concentration building in the Great Pacific Northwest….where wet is a way of life and umbrellas rule. Welcome!

Hi Jim,
Happy Krampus Day/Night!
“You’re Going To Lose That Girl” hooked me too! IMO it’s still their best live performance. And it’s the one I have used to initiate friends and family to MLT. It never fails to impress.
It’s great to see this club grow. Not sure if we have any other Texans. We need more. They really know their music in Texas.
Welcome!

Thank you Lisa,
Now we know why that sticky toffee pudding doesn’t stick to you!
Seriously, I think we all marvel at how creative and productive the Wagner family is. This enlightened approach to fitness goes a long way to explaining why you have these seismic energy levels. And the pleasure you take in it is not only impressive, but very inspiring.
So please excuse me while I grab my jacket and head out for a nice long walk.

Hi Frank,
Welcome. And greetings from the Pacific Northwest.

Mona,
Thank you for the insight. This makes perfect sense to me. I think what you do could be termed ‘practical’ practice. Seriously, if you and Lisa played no instruments at all, I would still be a huge fan. Your voices are your primary ‘instruments’…as so amply demonstrated in the track you released today ‘Little Drummer Boy’.

I’ll be hitting the road in a couple hours. But only 20 miles to travel, so not far. While our actual Thanksgiving dinner won’t be until later in the day, my family likes to get a big running start. Turkey day football games, holiday movies, assorted liquid refreshments, general catching up, intense napping, etc; etc; When the bird finally emerges from the oven, yours truly is the designated carver. This responsibility goes to the oldest family member. I have a commanding lead in this department.

Hi Jung,
Lisa is already on it? I guess I shouldn’t really be surprised. Yes, impressive. M&L both seem to be voracious learners. Could the sitar be next? Thanks for the tip.

Howard – I was thinking ‘Living in the Past’. I can picture Mona rocking out on that one. But if you were line first with your requests, I’ll just patiently wait my turn. Michael, you mention the mandolin. We haven’t heard this in the instrumental mix yet. Since Mona will be busy with the flute, that sounds like a Lisa project to me. She has a knack for all things strings.

Thank you Mona,
This explains much. I figured everyone on Team MLT is a natural multi-tasker….but what a tremendous advantage to have a professional project manager in the family.
