    Guten Tag from Liverpool, Ken!

Welcome in the Club and thank you so much for popping in and introducing yourself.

We love how music brings together people from different generations! That Falco comment made us laugh out loud 😉

The 80’s were never the time for guitars and harmonies, and we guess neither is today but thankfully there is the internet and YouTube, so we can all connect regardless!

We hope you’ll enjoy it here and send groovy greetings!

    Hi John!

What a touching, interesting welcome post, thanks a lot for that!

It’s funny to us how so many people find us specifically because of the “Drive My Car” Cover, a video we never expected to do so well. Now it’s our 2nd most watched video and introduces thousands to our music each day … life is bizarre sometimes.

We are glad you came across it and decided to stay, and we can only say thank you for the kind compliments and your support here through joining the club.

We are very sorry to hear that you and your family have been struggling with health problems. Hopefully, things are on the up and we’ll keep trying to help create endorphins with our music as best as we can. It’s magical sometimes what a simple song can do to one’s mood and outlook.

All four of us send all the best, a big “hello” and an even bigger “thank you”.

20/10/2019 at 13:08 in reply to: Black Guitar in "Knocking on the Heaven Doors"?

    Hi Angelo!

Thank you, our legs have recovered by now and the bruises have faded! 😉

The Maton 12-string is an EM425C/12 and the 6-string is an EBG808CL “Performer”. Those model descriptions are a mouthful hehe. We love them both!

The black guitar in the “Knockin On Heaven’s Door” is a Line 6 “Variax acoustic 700”. We actually haven’t used it since that performance but it’s a guitar that can model and emulate various different tunings and sounds at the click of a button. For that particular song, we made it sound like a 12-string guitar.

They are no longer in production but are actually pretty cool, especially if you’re on a budget and want many different sounds (sitar, 12-string, nylon, western, …) all in one instrument.

Have a groovy rest of your weekend,
    Mona

    Hi Kevin,

Yes, we’re planning to offer something like that in the near future, since producing many different designs in small numbers and all kinds of sizes makes them too expensive and a nightmare to stock.

So bear with us, and we’ll let you know once we’ve managed to implement an easy way to handle that in our shop. Does that sound like a plan? 🙂

    Thanks for the interest,
    Lisa

No, we’ve never actively approached them about a possible collaboration or otherwise. We haven’t really found the perfect project or reason to do so yet … we are sure they are both plenty busy as is 😉

If the opportunity arises, we’d of course be over the moon to meet or possibly even work with them. We suspect they are both aware of our music, as quite a few mutual friends assured us they are, but we don’t know to what extent we have popped up on their “radar” in any significant way.

Glad you liked the collabs we have done so far and I’m sure we’ll work with more cool artists over the years to come, but for now are going to really focus on our own music again.

After the filming of this video, I sued Lisa for aggravated battery and dragged her through a 2-year-long legal battle. She sued me back for my terrible sense of humor which I in turn blame on the brain trauma she inflicted on me that day. We eventually settled outside of court over some coffee and a sticky toffee pudding and she promised to never hit me with a hammer on the head again (yes, it was a real one).

    Thankfully, all is well now.

    😉

    Hi George,

Thank you so much for joining the Club and all the kind words 🙂 We’re glad you found us on YouTube and it’s a shame we weren’t playing when you visited Liverpool. We hope you had a great time here and got to enjoy everything this city has to offer.

Are we ever coming back to the US soon? Ever? YES! Soon? Probably not. We have a lot of things planned for 2020 that probably won’t leave much time for travelling or touring, but our plans constantly change and evolve. So we can’t say for sure yet. Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans, right? 😉

We will be back one day!

All the best and stay groovy,
    Lisa

Hi Angelo and welcome back 🙂

The dark Martin we play in “Wake Up Little Susie” and “June” is a custom build which is why you could not find out the exact model. We think it’s one of our most gorgeous guitars although it is in need of a setup to improve the playability.

Our favourite 12-string? Only a few months ago we sound-tested them against each other to figure out which one to use for the Epstein Theatre gig with Mike Massé, the one you attended.

As you know, I decided to go for the Maton for that performance. It has the most balanced sound, in my opinion, doesn’t sound too piezo like and has a full, clear output. It’s not the most comfortable to play though. The neck is quite chunky and the action is quite temperamental and needs to be adjusted every few months. You can definitely tell that the Australian wood isn’t used to the European climate and likes to bend out of shape! 🙂

The blue nylon guitars … they cost 12£ on eBay and have “Alba” written on them so I guess that would be the brand, although it is not a well-known guitar manufacturer as far as we know. They even came with a strap, tuning pipe and a footrest! We bought them as cheap starting guitars back in the day and for video purposes as they look pretty cool. They are pretty well-manufactured instruments that sound really good. Fantastic for the price!

    Hope that answers all questions.

    Groovy greetings!

    Hi David,

We’ve seen Paul twice, once in Cologne in 2010 and later in Liverpool (2015). It was special seeing Paul in his hometown but nothing will come close to the experience we had in 2010 when Mona and I flew to Germany just to catch his show. There were a lot of happy and overwhelmed tears involved :’-)

He really knows how to structure a show and how to take you on a journey. Obviously he has the best songs in the world to choose from, but still, he keeps it interesting from beginning to the end, even when he throws in his non-Beatle material.

Personally, we’ve never been big fans of his band’s big stadium sound, so we prefer looking at Beatles recordings and earlier live shows for inspiration. But we’re glad we saw him live and would go again in a heartbeat if the opportunity arises 🙂

Unfortunately, we had to remove the pictures, as we might run into copyright issues when artworks from other artists are used as a basis for own creations. We already had that problem before when a Club member used the comic character Johnny Bravo and other works without consent of the copyright owners.

You can certainly post appropriate original creations but in order to avoid legal trouble for anyone, please stay clear of using artwork where other parties’ copyrights are involved.

We just compared dates and had to laugh out loud when we realised this question came in literally two days before we announced our upcoming Q&A video. Someone here is reading minds!

This one will only be available in the MLT Club but we might consider filming another one for YouTube down the line. Together with more music videos, more albums, more content for the club, more live shows, more duo sessions …

If only there were 8 days a week … 🙂

06/10/2019 at 21:26 in reply to: Promised STARMAN question

    Hi Rick!

Sorry, I’m a bit behind answering these Starman questions but they might still be interesting!

Part 1: Yes, that is indeed Papa Rudi hiding (not very successfully as it turns out) behind his hat and the cave right next to us during the drone shots. Michaela was sat in a different cave that was out of frame during all these sequences, guarding all the equipment, guitar cases, etc.

The weather was extremely windy for all the days of shooting so Dad didn’t want to risk flying the drone from a location too far away where he could only rely on the drone camera with no direct line of sight. That’s why he had to stay close by and risk some sharp eyes spotting him on the footage afterward. 😉 Let’s just call it an Easter Egg!

Part 2: I believe Bowie ad-libs this part differently on various versions but in the official record he seems to sing “lotta soul, he said” which is what I did as well. He just sounds cooler saying it. 😉

Part 3: Anything else you missed in the video? We doubt it’s possible to sneak anything into a video that you wouldn’t notice! 😉 We went into a lot more detail about the video shoot in this photo post.

The most memorable of the three days of filming by far was the time when we got caught in a rainstorm on the way down the mountain. It really was like nothing we’ve ever experienced, you could see a black cloud of doom racing toward the filming spot and once it hit us we couldn’t see a single thing, just rain. It’s a shame we couldn’t capture that moment on video but none of our cameras would have made it out alive if they weren’t packed away securely. A great memory though.

    Groovy greetings!

    Hi Paul!

We’ve got yet another musician in the house, how great! Welcome to the MLT Club and thank you for making the decision to stop by and support our music in the process 🙂

Unfortunately, we don’t know an awful lot about Michigan other than its breathtaking lakes and scenery (from pictures) but hopefully we’ll get a chance to visit there one day.

Have a wonderful day, thank you very much for pre-ordering the new album and please say hi to your wife Becky from us too.

    Stay groovy,
    Mona & Lisa

06/10/2019 at 20:22 in reply to: What was the craziest lyric idea conjured up?!

Well, there would be “Waiting For The Waiter”. An idea first born by Papa Rudi while waiting for no-one else but a particularly slow waiter 😉 Now the lyrics obviously morphed into all sorts of meanings and got a life on their own but nevertheless it started with a rather unsatisfactory dining experience.
