“Patched-Up” Denim Jacket – Arts & Crafts

Let’s patch this thing up!

Today for something completely different: Lisa gave me a couple of iron-on patches for my birthday and little did she know that it would kickstart … this.

We’re customising a denim jacket today while reminiscing over the various parts of our lives that many of these patches represent. Hobbies, people, bands, memories, …

It’s a laid-back chit-chatty video but we had a ton of fun filming it and now have a groovy jacket to wear out. 🙂

In case any of you out there are collecting patches too and weren’t aware of the MonaLisa Twins one you can find it here. 🙂

Stay groovy!

  1. I like your your groovy jacket Mona, I have sent to you a Pink Floyd patche in December, I hope you have received it and that you like it. Merci

  2. I just love the way you interact as loving sisters. So natural in your love and mutual admiration for one another, and the joy you take in being together and reminiscing about your history together. I think I admire you even more as people every time you post a new video…

  3. Love the stories!
Maybe it’s time to pull out the patches I have and get them finally on my jacket. I always end up wearing the MLT “jumper”. I was certain I had a MLT patch, but I can’t find it so I’ll just have to order another!
    Thank you!

  4. I want to hear the whole donkey story!

  5. Mona and Lisa, this was a very cool video this week! I collected patches when I was a kid, and still have them today. So cool to hear how each patch has a special meaning and story. This is why we all love you both so much because it feels like family when you share with us the things you both do and how it hits home with all of us! So down to earth and your smiles and humor are special!

  6. That sure wasn’t a Doug Pinnock spin move, Mona, but the jacket looks great on you. This visit reminded me of two things: the donkey we had along with our few horses back in Ohio, and why I always preferred VHS to DVD– I like seeing what I’m jumping over. ????????????

  7. It´s great denim jacket now but your Pink Floyd t-shirt is also cool, Mona !

  8. I always love your videos!! I’m intrigued about the donkey. Awesome jacket!!

  9. It’s been said New Yorkers speak really fast…I’ll be in Syracuse NY in 2 weeks… I’ll get it translated…..loved the video and the donkey part was really funny….I enjoy whatever it is you girls do for our Friday entertainment…..back “in the day” when I had 5 motorcycles I had a denim jacket with all sorts of patches on it….I don’t know why but it just seemed like the thing to do with a denim jacket????❤️????

  10. What a cool idea!

What about adding a marathon or running patch?

  11. One of two denim jackets that I have. I think it has enough patches to it.

  12. Hi Ladies,
So enjoyed this video today. (Saturday) I remember these Denim Patch Jackets. Everyone had one when I was growing up. Well, except me. (Those look tacky) (you can have the jacket, but no patches) ☹️????????
Thanks for sharing this DIY video. Love the patches too!

  13. That is so cool‼️ And, also groovy. Loved hearing the story behind each patch. Thank you for sharing it with us, and for making it so enjoyable and entertaining. ????❤

  14. Denim jacket, or Jean jacket as they are also called around here sometimes, never go out of style.
Lots of cool patches. Very enjoyable to watch.
Happy everything is moving forward on the new album.

  15. Like Jung, I failed to mention in my first post how special the early drum footage was. It’s so adorable to see you both light up when you recall special shared memories, especially when they have such a profound impact on your musical development! Mom and I can’t get enough of the Eine kleine Tischmusik vid, but can’t help feel a bit sorry for the kid whose legs aren’t quite long enough to make the table “stomp”!

  16. Great idea using the patches to remember key memories from your life. And lots of space on the back for new adventures too! I use fridge magnets for the same sort of thing although there is not much room left on it as other family members would bring them back from their holidays to add to it. Of course I have the MLT magnet on there as well! Also explains how the origin of your grooviness is due to your early drum lessons – all I can remember from my school music class is the teacher making us all listen to Tubular Bells!

  17. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video with us Mona and Lisa and telling us the story behind each patch, delighted to see that Neve is thriving thanks to your care and attention when she was growing up no doubt ❤️
Looking forward to seeing the jacket when it’s completely covered in patches, I’ll have to see if I can find some suitable ones to send you from Ireland. Keep doing what you’re doing girls, you bring some beautiful rays of sunshine ???? and happy memories into this old man’s life, thank you, love you both. ❤️❤️

  18. I really found interesting the insight you provided about the drum lessons you both took, and how it really got you into the music, and about the in the moment fun you discovered playing music. Loved those video clips of your drumming lessons.

  19. Ladies, your nostalgia makes me kind of sad – but i enjoyed it. Save some room for Jacki’s maple leaf.
Please share it eith us when the jacket is fully decorated.

  20. I played the donkey story part at 1/4 speed and I think it got even more confusing!

Great video and I think I loved the last half second most of all. 🙂

    1. Yes, David! “Dizzy Mona” was hilarious ????!

    2. Hahaha, my heart fibrillates every time at that last half second and a chuckle comes out of me thinking “oops hope she’s OK”. So darned cute.

  21. That was fun. I had a denim jacket covered with Pink Floyd patches when I was a teenager. Thanks for sharing the clip of Neve. They grow up so quick.

The fast explanation of the donkey patch was funny. Mona was a donkey in the stable where Christ was born? These DIY videos are always fun.

    We love Mona’s DSOTM shirt.

    1. Thank you sir for a very reasonable explanation of the whole donkey mystery. I’m guessing that you are guessing, but I think your explanation is better than anything I can come up with.

  22. Oh my, now I am dying to hear the whole story about the donkey thing! I had some horses in my younger days but never had a donkey -even though I always wanted one. There is something about them that just makes me laugh and smile. I don’t think it is possible to be in a bad mood when there is a donkey around. Perhaps a new original tune about a donkey in the future? He Haw!

  23. Gonna have to send ya some Canadian patches ???????????? so I am now… stay on lookout in the next while in the mail…… that was funky fab fun , love the patches, definitely reflective of your Life Odyssey , Thankyou for sharing and showing once finished and indeed #MLTBuzzLuvGroovified …. Love it ????????

  24. You two make everything so much fun! Great to see Neve thriving and looking so grown-up! First thing this brought to mind was the awesome pallet/planter video from many months ago. Sure glad you didn’t have to “staple the crap out of it” to keep the patches on! Loved all the stories about the meaning behind each patch, and still intrigued about the donkey! Maybe someday you could share the animal caricatures you used to represent yourselves on your school papers with us all. I’d sure love to see ’em! MANY thanks for providing our weekly JOY infusion yet again!

  25. Great, Fun video. The jacket looks great!!

  26. Great video, thanks MLT 🙂
I think I know what Mona will be getting for Christmas!

  27. Hi Mona and Lisa, that was so much fun going down your memory lane with you through those patches. Such a cool and wonderful idea! That jacket will be a priceless treasure for you, and it looks great on you Mona.

My favourite patches are the MLT, yellow submarine, and Neve and the Watermelon. Wow! Thanks for showing us the clip of Neve and Frankie! She looks just magnificent and adorable as ever in her Canada Goose colours! She’s started to fly, awesome. Would love to see more about her on a future post.

I love your DIY projects, each one is so interesting, fun, and inspirational. Just shows how creative and resourceful you both are. Such ingenuity. I love donkeys, they are so cute and gracefully stubborn! I’m intrigued by what you were talking about regarding the donkey.

Thanks for another awesome post, loved watching it! ???? ???? ❤

  28. That was really cool! Love the patches. That was a fun video to watch. Thanks Mona and Lisa. ❤️????❤️

  29. I never had that many on mine, but maybe I need to dig it out and add an MLT patch!

  30. Cool patches – it made me realize I forgot to put an MLT Patch in my order last week!

  31. I was amazed at how fast you two could talk during the donkey patch discussion 🙂

  32. Luv’d your life journey thru the patches. Please share some more of your older videos of when you were much younger. I noticed in one of the drumming videos Lisa has red hair – when did you start going red? Luv you guys. Peace be.

  33. That was very cool and entertaining! Thank you very much for sharing The MLT Arts & Crafts Show,

  34. Have to add one more time…VOX GIRLS!

  35. A fun DIY Project. Mona, especially, is really into arts-and-crafts and gardening.

For the next DIY: “Cooking With Lisa”. Lisa can prepare some authentic Austrian cuisine.

    Hope you like the idea!

    1. Mmm…Wienerschnizel. Linzertorte. Ich vergesse.
