Nowhere Man – New Video

Nowhere Man, please listen …

We have a special video to share with you today. It’s amongst the most requested Beatles covers we’ve gotten over the years.

We are keeping up the tradition of posting a video in honour of our dear friend Steve, whose birthday would be today. We sadly lost a very special friend and our greatest supporter at that time, in October 2019, right before the madness set in. He loved the Beatles and intricate harmonies as much as we do, and we recorded this song for him.

So this is for you, Steve, and everyone who has been feeling a little lost lately.

We’ve been mumbling the words to Nowhere Man only too often while reading the news these past 12 months …

  1. Mona and Lisa, I really enjoyed the “Beatles and More” 3-volume CD set. Your covers of The Beatles and other 60s artists is superb. I am a big Beatles fan and 60s & 70s music in general. Your harmonies are spot-on for these much-loved songs. As much as I enjoy your covers of great songs, it would be nice now if you were to compose and perform your own material most of the time. I am sure this would be more rewarding!

  2. Oh yes – another fabulous song performed so beautifully. Thank you. I feel completely refreshed and spiritually recharged.

  3. She Drums Too! Sweet! I truly believe your friend Steve is enjoying sitting back and enjoying all the heartfelt effort you and your unseen crew put into this one including all the retakes and mixing it took to get it just perfect. Trust me when I call it perfect. I also believe that there is an underlying meaning as to why you chose this song to be the tribute. Someday maybe you will elaborate? Thank You! (The Whoo)

  4. Great sound, lovely video. There have been a lot of Beatle cover songs over the years, yours are some of the better ones.

  5. Nowhere Man was my “theme” song during my junior high school days. Mid-1960’s, we were in the middle of Beatlemania. Thank you so much for excellent covers of Beatles songs along with the other songs. Your CD’s, Orange, Christmas and Live at the Cavern Club are very good. Your M/L coffee mugs are waiting for my AM coffee. Oh, before I forget, The Mona Lisa Cavern Club poster is on the basement wall next to my Janis Joplin, Monterey Pop Festival, and Woodstock posters at the pool table end of my finished basement. Thank you again for having these available for purchase. You two are excellent musicians. I enjoy your song Still A Friend Of Mine.

  6. Love it! I have performed this song acoustically, just a duo, but still sounds good. You always do Beatle music justice and I appreciate you keeping the fires burning for new Beatle fans all over the world! Stay groovy ~

  7. Great song beautifully performed. Thanks too for the free MP3 files you sent me – many thanks. You guys are incredibly imaginative and you produce some really creative and thoroughly enjoyable videos; the twins are brilliant musicians and singers and have a wonderfully supportive and multi-talented dad; I’ve only just found you but I’m in awe of your talent enthusiasm and sheer joie de vivre. Ladies, you are simply wonderful!

  8. Have been of fan of Lisa and Mona for years….they cover Beatle songs exceptionally. Their originals are absolutely awesome as a salute to the rockabilly music that influenced The Beatles as subsequently MonaLisa Twins. They keep getting better. And prettier.

  9. Love how beautifully this Beatles classic is expressed in your version, so moving. Incredibly captivating and pulls the listener in like magic! This does John Lennon and your friend Steve proud.

  10. I hate Beatles cover songs, at least did until you ‘ladies’ started doing them, you do them justice please never try to change the rhythms of the originals and I will be a fan of yours forever. The harmonies are amazing. Any chance you could do some Shadows covers OK they are 99% instrumental (they should never have sung) but their music is great, yes I am an old fart 🙂

  11. Mona and Lisa cover Beatles songs with their playing and terrific harmoniesso beautifully. I have listening to the beatles for 60 yearsand the MonaLisa covers are so crisp and new

  12. i swear the warm tone and vocal delivery is second to none. congrats on a song done perfectly for this beatlemaniac.

  13. Ok I’ve listen to this 17 times and I am not getting my work done…ok just 1 more time then I’ll get back to work

  14. Great job ladies! You never cease to amaze me…and my brother, who has been drumming 60s music since the 1960s. Thanks for sharing with us.

  15. Just simple – stunning harmonies. You do such a great job of adding your gifts and staying true to the tunes. Love you and the way you reinvigorate the 60’s music we love!

  16. I’ve always been a Beatles fan. And again I love this cover. As well as your original tunes. Don’t know how I never heard of Mona Lisa Twins until searching around YouTube late last summer in the middle of the pandemic. You’ve made a positive impact in my life. Whenever it seems to be getting too much I return for some wonderful current, positive, beautiful music from MLT for a pick me up. Thank You both. Hope to see you at a live concert in the US someday! Please keep doing what you do.

  17. Wow. Just wow.
The presentation, the fidelity to the original, the musicianship, the tracking, and the VOICES!
As someone who’s old enough to have slow-danced to the original (oh, those eighth-grade parties!), I just about can’t handle how wonderful your mix makes me feel.
    Thank you, ladies.

  18. The formatting I used in my comment, below (italics), didn’t appear in the text when my message posted. Can you fix that or did I goof? Thanks, Jeffrey

  19. Thank you for your sensitivity. Nowhere Man touched me, I think, in just the way you intended. And I’m sorry about Steve.

On a musical note, I see you have a Ricky 12 in this video. (Is it the Ricky 12 model that George played, i.e. 360-something?). I don’t know when you got it, but I think you have done some covers that should have had the Rick and didn’t, especially You Can’t Do That (One of my all-time faves). If my memory is indeed correct, could I ask you to re-do that video? If I’m wrong, just ignore me. 🙂 Jeffrey in Central California

PS: In one of your CDs of ours that I purchased, you two did a charming romp down Lombard street and other colorful San Francisco locales. I loved it. Thank you.
    Be well, safe, and happy.

  20. A slightly laid back but a very well done version of this Beatles classic. Thank you Mona and Lisa????????????

  21. Very nice. Love the harmonies and electric guitar. Excellent tribute, and I am sure that your friend Steve approves. xo

  22. One of the most beautiful Beatles balad with Something , Happiness and the fool on the hill…. and such a lovely and loyal interpretation by MLT… well done

  23. I know it’s a ’70s, not a ’60s song, but would you consider covering Cat Stevens’ “SAD LISA”? It’s a great, moving song…and the name is quite relevant to you…

    1. I’m actually named after that song 🙂 Maybe we’ll do another Cat Stevens song in the future. He’s written so many great tracks!

  24. Very nice girls. It’s a John song so Mona takes it – but we also get 2 Lisas – what a treat!
I’ve been a fan for about 4 months. I started with Beatle covers but love the originals too – Sweet Lorraine, One More Time, June are all great. I hope to see you live one day.

  25. I love your music and sound! You do justice to the great music of that era that I grew up in. I’m not much into people covering Beatle songs but you cover them brilliantly. Please continue.

  26. Ladies, great job – as usual! Mona, love seeing you behind the kit. Lisa, it somehow doesn’t seem right to see that roving base line being played right-handed. 😉

    Lots of affection,
    Papi.

  27. MLT make this version sound better than the original. It’s always a real pleasure to hear their versions as many young will come to appreciate the Beatles music through you!

  28. You know your friend’s birthday is the same date the Beatles played at the Cover for the first time (it was 1961)

  29. Wie immer perfekt. Was soll man da noch sagen? Gut – besser – MonaLisa Twins. Ich freue mich auf jeden Song, den Ihr veröffentlicht. Einfach nur gute Musik. Danke!

  30. Excellent job, your voices are like angel’s. I especially appreciated the mix of instruments from that era. I have 3 of your cds and would love to see you perform live. Maybe when this madness is over. Stay safe and keep on rockin

  31. You young ladies are so talented. I have all of your cd’s and a member. I really hope one day to see you perform live. Thanks for keeping the music from my generation alive.

  32. I think you young ladies are AWESOME. Got all cds. Still wish that you would do a video of the same Club 24. Thank you. Be Safe. God Bless

  33. Not bad but a Weird song for a tribute for someone not with us anymore. I just discovered a very very close friend, first love and everything from my teens who I had not seen for 45 years so in this lockdown so I decided to see if I could locate her with all the modern tech of the internet. I did and found she had died 17 years ago , depressed, an alcoholic and I had no idea! I was in pieces and so wish I could have helped if I had known but hey ho hind sight is great NOT. This song would not have been a a tribute to her from me more likely Two of Us.

  34. I have always been moved by this particular Beatles track. I was 15 when I first heard it on the excellent Rubber Soul album(cost weeks of pocket money!!). This version by the girls is absolutely spellbinding. I have tears in my eyes, both from their superb rendition but also of the 60s & lost youth. The girls are so talented. Thank you so much…

    1. Gibt’s leider nicht, Edgar, Ich hab sie auch schon danach gefragt.
Wir müssen uns mit youtube und ihrer eigenen homepage begnügen.
      MICHAEL aus München

  35. Fabulous…thank you! ‘Making all his nowhere plans for nobody’ sums up very distinctly my life/our lives in lockdown….

  36. Since UTube shut me down (they still won’t say why), I lost touch with you guys. I’ve missed you ’cause I love you all. Have since I first met you on the Tube a few years ago. Very talented. I enjoy your work. Thanks so much for reaching out to me. You lifted my spirits tonight. This old guitar man feels like a “nowhere man” these days. Thanks again.

  37. This is the “you got my attention” video to me. I think I was in seventh grade when first hearing it. Yes it’s a valentine arrow to my heart from the MLT club. You’ll be hearing from me soon very soon. Aye!

  38. Yes, this came at a very good time. I really enjoyed this very much! Y’all’s vocals are especially tight and crisp here! (Love, love, love the double tracking!) The heart you put into all of your music is very evident and I’m sure your friend would have loved it!

  39. Nice version, but I’m on the fence how this might be arranged for an SATB version. Readers might want to chime in on their feelings about it on the Facebook page “Arranging 60s Music for SATB Chorus / Orchestra.”

  40. I’m always filled with so much happiness whenever I hear you that I’m overwhelmed with so many feelings of a time in my life I miss very much. Growing up, school and friends, music is very much a part of who I am and I’m thankful that you came along to bring that joy and happiness back in my life. Forever a fan.

  41. Steve would surely be pleased with this excellent tribute. I’m sorry for the loss of your friend. I agree that the year 2020 has caused many to become nowhere men and nowhere women. Good music like you two create makes the world a little better. Believe it. You make a difference. I am The EggMen’s bass player.

  42. I absolutely love watching and hearing you very talented ladies sing. Keep up the great work!!

  43. You are both amazing with your command of multiple instruments and gorgeous voices. Listen to your songs every night. Thank you for making us smile and brighten our day with your music.

  44. Your voices and guitar work are awe-inspiring, and I love the blouses in your photo (above). European clothes are so unique, notes this Canadian.

  45. Fantastic job on Nowhere Man, one of my favorites, along with “And your bird can sing” and “Hey Bulldog “

  46. Beautiful work on all of the instruments! I’m so proud of everything you’ve done so far and wish you all the best on your future projects and endeavors!

  47. That was amazing! Thanks for sharing! It’s always great to hear your renditions of the Beatles and other bands. I also liked your reading of the Who’s My Generation.

  48. Absolutely beautiful. You girls are like angels and this is one of my favourite Beatles songs and you two just nailed it. I could listen to you all day.. Awesome and the video is on point too… Glad that I found you and this has made my day 🙂 stay safe during this madness.. xx

  49. That was glorious! You two just keep moving from triumph to triumph. I particularly enjoyed the cinematography here, the way the video cuts to emphasize what’s going on musically. Fantastic work!

  50. You are as technically tight as possible! Wonderful reproduction. Such verve! Even with such a delicate subject matter

  51. You two (four? Lol) ladies are simply one of my favourite duos to hear. You inspire where there is listlessness, you motivate when there is lethargy, and you fill one with awe and warmth where there was only emptiness and cold. THANK YOU!

  52. I follow your progress almost from the beginning of your career (since you played with mama and papa). “You are getting better and better all the time!” Congrats and thanks for blowing new life to this great music !

  53. I love allllll u do… especially ‘REVOLUTION”…. U are both so great, and lead is amazing!!!!!! I feel u are basically the only group who do the Beatles justice. i am a total Beatles fan. They raised me!!!!!! Once , yrs ago, you sent me a pen, and postcard and mouse pad I still use.. don’t know why. but thank you. I tell everyone about you…. In NOWHERE MAN , i love u put in the lalalalalalala’s…….THE LADS were/ are a phenomenon, never to be matched… ever…. / love rudy w

  54. Excellent cover! thank you for doing such a great job, especially with the Beatles covers. Because of them I learned how to play guitar and sing. Stay healthy and safe and keep on rocking girls!

  55. Way to go young ladies you just hit it out of the park with your rendition of Nowhere Man, it was great! God Bless you both, Jim Dougherty.

  56. An accurate rendition of this classic!!! Your harmonies are fantastic, the musicianship is exquisite, and your choice of covers is great!!! I enjoy your talent very much!!! A bit of sunshine during this time of many clouds…Thank you both for sharing one of my favorites!!!

  57. Sorry Steve had to leave you; hope all of our (your fans) thoughts and wishes can replace that loss a tiny bit. Your musical sense and the way you build your songs is elegant and lovely; so are your voices and playing. Thank you, keep up the grand work, we do appreciate it….

  58. Brought back many memories. Wonderful rendition.Vocals were terrific!
Side note: electric (lead melody) guitar could have been a little louder.

  59. Beautifully done both vocally and instrumentally….bass line was perfect…great job as always

  60. Nowhere man is one of my favourite Beatles songs. your performance is outstanding and gets better each year. I love the excellent musicianship and the harmonies are off the scale good.

  61. To have one human appreciate another so much that they become so dedicated to them, as he did for you, is truly an act of love, and to have those humans respond by singing this for him, is such an act of respect and love , it’s so heartwarming to see, I have not had anyone love me that much yet in my life, but there is still hope I guess, though I am 62 years old

  62. Their gorgeous they sing and harmonise amazingly and their musical talent is out of this world, I just wish I was some 50 odd years younger. As a muso from the 60s I could watch day long. Brilliant girls keep that style of music alive xxx John

  63. These young women rock my ol’ soul with their superb harmony. They give a fresh blush while conveying the original feeling, for me. This song epitomizes their particular skill set.

  64. Another tour de force from the sublime twins. They just get better and better. Nowhere Man – what a great choice. Thank you.

  65. Nowhere Man was amazing! I always thought that John and Paul would have made an awesome duo and your video proves my point. Thanks again for the sheer joy you bring to this nowhere man

  66. That was beautiful… the two of you are beautiful, and I’m quite sure that Steve would enthusiastically agree! Thank you both! ????????????

  67. I love this take on favourite of mine. Nice to see Mona on the drums again too. Lisa your playing never fails to my ears either. Lovely sound from the Ricky.

  68. This is very fine by I must confess that I am still addicted to you last video with John Sebastian between the bunny and the mousey. I watch it over and over. In this one those hard Macca bass lines are specially well. But I was expecting the high pitch singing in the end. I’m sure you can do it. Greetings.

  69. The Beatles fan in me is like “FRIKKIN’ AWESOME!!!” The producer in my says turn up the bass, and eq your voices so it doesn’t sound like auto tuning. Anyway, Another hit by y’all 🙂

  70. john wrote that song to reflect how he was feeling at that time of his life ..no silly love songs ..i had the single norwigean wood the a side nowhere man the b side both great songs..love that ric guitar..well done….ian

  71. Who would have thought the Beatles could have been TWO! it’s the same but better … and more “cute”. Don’t let go girls, your talents enhance our lives! 😉

  72. Love everything of yours I have purchased, even saw you live in the cavern once. This is just perfect! I hate sort of copies of covers always preferring the first version I heard, I love it when covers are different too, but this is something new to me, sort of true to the original but new! Love you girls, hope real life will soon come back and live events re-start. XX

  73. Qui aurait cru que les Beatles auraient pu être DEUX ! c’est pareil mais en mieux… et en plus “cute”. Lâchez pas les filles vos talents agrémentent nos vies! 😉

  74. What an absolutely brilliant rendition, keep it up girls, you get better every time I hear you.

P.S Would love to hear Moody Blues covers as i think some of the older with your harmonies would be well received.

  75. Now ladies, YOU listen.
I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT

Now I’m waiting for Turn, Turn, Turn

    Love you
    Ken

  77. Wonderful!! Love that song by the Beatles and now by you girls. Lovable version. You are so good!! Could you please do one day Golden Slumbers? I’d love to hear it performed by you girls, it matches your style. Thanks for your doing!

Always loved this tune…My brother and I, both musicians since we ‘MET THE BEATLES’ in 1963, used to perform this all the time…Key # D…He playing his 12-string Gibson and me on my congas….And ‘killing it’ with such Beatlesque harmonies, for sure….Brings back the BESTest of memories….YOU GUYS ROCK ~

  84. Such a beautiful version…thank you for staying true to the song..it made me tear up….i loved john Lennon music…john was my favorite Beatles…
