All About “The Duo Sessions”

About The Album

“The Duo Sessions” album came about purely because of all you lovely MLT Club members who help us produce new songs and videos!

Back in December 2019 we had uploaded our first ever Duo Session Video to the MLT Club as an experiment to see how people would receive it. We set up two chairs, a camera and a couple of mics in one corner of our recording studio to play a simple, intimate version of one of our favourite songs.

The following month we had filmed another four videos as part of the Advent Calendar 2019.

These videos quickly became fan favourites among clubbers, so we decided to make it a regular MLT Club feature, with more than a dozen videos after the first few months.

In 2020 we decided to put the first 15 recordings on an album and release it as “The Duo Sessions“. We created an artwork for it and dad remixed the songs to make them flow nicely when listened to as an album.

We will continue to create Duo Sessions for the Club and, who knows, perhaps a Volume 2 will emerge once we have collected enough songs.Lyrics, Music, Performance, Engineering, Production and Album Design: MonaLisa Twins

  1. The Duo Sessions are special! Love the recordings and videos because they show your pure musicianship. I know that I have said this in previous postings. Both of you sing like angels, but the way that you play while singing is incredible! It is fun listening with headphones. One can hear the subtle beat of the Wazinator and the bass lines when one of you is playing the Hofner. Finally, the two of you playing guitars together is pure magic!

Looking forward, down the road of course, (you are busy right now in completing the new album) to more of these Duo Sessions. Perhaps, a Trio Session with Papa Rudi on the bass will be considered.

    Thank you Mona and Lisa.

  2. “The Duo Sessions” is a wonderful collection of songs. I was glad to see that you included my favorite so far of all your releases, your cover of “It Ain’t Me Babe”. Of the three new songs that we hadn’t heard yet, I loved “I’m Looking Through You” and “Both Sides Now”.

To me, this was your best album so far, and I’ve liked all of them.

  3. Dear Team MLT, I got my order yesterday. Thanks. I really love that you took on a Joni Mitchell song. I used to listen to her appear on a folk music radio program out of Philadelphia back in the 70s. I even still have some cassette recordings yet to be converted to digital. One thing about Joni was that she used a lot of different tunings. In one interview, she explained that it was partly an attempt to make it harder for people to copy her. Not being a musician myself, knowing if a song is in a standard tuning is lost on me. I was wondering if any of your originals are in non-standard tunings? Joni also once explained that her constant re-tuning and the uneven tension of some of her tunings were very hard on her guitars. When synth-guitars were coming out, she wanted one where she could change the tuning electronically. I don’t know if she ever found one she liked.

  4. I am really enjoying the “Duo Sessions” album. Sometimes I like to sit down on the rug between the my stereo boxes, close my eyes and just listen… I love how I can make out details I didn’t quite get before, like some vocal harmonies or a certain line of the guitar. I am really looking forward to seeing the videos of the new songs to see what instruments you are using!

  5. Well this is another fabulous treat from the MonaLisa Twins. I am disappointed though that I only achieved 92% in my first attempt at the quiz. However, I have the excuse of not having received my CD copy yet, so don’t know what is under that translucent sleeve! My CD copy has a very long way to travel to Downunder. That of course hasn’t stopped me from appreciating all these Duo Session performances via that terrific MLT Club Jukebox. Thank you Mona and Lisa for all you are and all you do! I hope you and your family are all doing well during these difficult times.

    1. I got a 92 also, and I have no such excuse. I think I know which one I got wrong but I’m not sure. I was a bit pre-occupied during Advent, so maybe that’s where I messed up. Still an “A” in my book tho.

  6. Amazing quality! I’ve mentioned on just about every video what I love about it, but something just hit me hard yesterday. The sound and video quality! I watched some other cover videos and though the musicians are talented and the songs were top hits the quality jumped out – compared to yours. Not a slam on the others, but just showed how much your duo-sessions stand out! Great job. This other set of siblings are skilled and their production videos of their originals are excellent. Their duo-sessions left me flat and disappointed. It just really made it so clear how you do such a spectacular and professional job in the duo-sessions just like in everything you do. You two sit down with guitars and other instruments and capture the magic of songs with many artists, massive production, special effects, enhancements, etc. Thanks again for bringing joy, fun and beauty into the lives of so many people.

  7. The themed topic page is such a great idea to compile everything on the topic in one place, makes it even more enjoyable. Awesome, some new puzzles to exercise those synpases. And a fun and challenging quiz to top it all off too 🙂 Thanks for organizing the topic pages so wonderfully. All your creativity and attention to detail in the Club makes it all so enjoyable. Everything is just top notch!

  8. The more Isee about you both., more I admire and love. amazing CD. the cover of
“Both Sides Now’ is absolutely wonderfull.

  9. Thank you so much for compiling everything related to the duo sessions here!

I’d like to suggest one small correction: in the lyrics for Both Sides Now, the original phrase is “Ferris wheels” rather than “ferries wheels”.

    1. The original Ferris Wheel was built in Chicago by Ferris Jnr. However, they are also known as Ferries Wheels. Below, Wiener Riesenrad, Vienna, built in 1897, originally had 30 passenger cabins but was rebuilt with 15 cabins following a fire in 1944.

      1. I didn’t know that, Howard! I withdraw my motion.

      2. David, thanks for the correction. And Howard for helping us out there 🙂
When googling the lyrics you can find both versions. However, being the spelling nerd that I am I had to correct it to “Ferris wheels” since that’s the proper name.

Fun little trivia about the Wiener Riesenrad, Howard. My dad’s father had actually worked in the engine room at some point around 1955 and so my dad would get a lot of free rides in the summer holidays when he was a little boy.

      3. That’s an interesting side note Michaela…my only Ferris Wheel story of my own I have is how I had a panic attack on a children’s sized version of ferris wheel, and I got stuck at the top, I think the operator did that on purpose, I hate heights, my brother was laughing, I wasn’t, I caused a scene, with my panic attack…never again did I ir would I ever go on a damned Ferris wheel…lol…That experience finished me off on Ferrus Wheels…

My apologies for not noticing the spelling error sooner, Spellingvwas my fave subject I excelled at in school, for the most part…

      4. How lucky your dad was Michaela. A Ferris wheel that size In the mid fifties would have been so exciting for a little boy.
