Day 1

With this photo we’re kicking off this year’s Advent Calendar. Leading up to Christmas, we’ll be posting 4 new videos (coming out each Friday) and during the weeks we will keep you in the loop about what we’re up to with a little photo story each day. Today you can see us recording the next song. Now all that’s left to do is cut it all together and get it ready for the first Friday.

Did you get yourself an actual Advent Calendar this year? Chocolate or pictures? 😉

  1. Seasons Greetings!

I’d be tickled to see this fine MonaLisa Twins tradition carried on if you’re able to pull together in time because it’s coming up fast this year. Everything done in the past has been thoughtful, fun, and just all around uplifting.

  2. first time on here – great pic

  3. Hello!
So this is a first for me. So please fill me in, i want to join in on the fun. Do I check each day? Very excited !!!

  4. I got coolest advent for the grandkids. Disney storybook advent.

  5. And so it begins again. One of the highlights of the year for the MLT Club members. The Advent Calendar. Looking forward to seeing our musical darlings get into the Christmas spirit and sharing the day to day life of the Wagner household. Also looking forward to the songs you will be blessing us with each week. I see Lisa in this photo with one of the Thalia Capos on the Cordoba guitar that I’ve sent you as gifts the past couple of years. Looking forward to seeing more of them beauties. No Advent calendar this year. I’ve got the MLT Advent calendar to keep me up to date.

  6. I have a jar of Chocolate Hersheys Kisses. No advent calendar this year. The countdown to my surgery is my calendar this year. Besides watching your advent calendar for us takes my mind off it. Thank you for thinking of all of us and doing this again this year. ?❤??

  7. I was introduced to advent calendars in high school, where the German Club sold ones imported from Germany. I always thought it was odd that the chocolate on the 24th was extra large, and that there was no window for the 25th. It was like saying, “Okay, get ready! Aaaaand… nothing.” But now knowing that the 24th is the big day in Germany and Austria, I see how it makes sense.

    1. Haha, that’s great! I actually remember seeing advent calendars with 25 doors as a kid and being really confused as to why they added an extra door. I thought it was meant as a farewell “pity” door like “there ya go, have one more for good measure”. Must have been a British, or American one 😉

  8. Such a fantastic idea! Thanks so much.

  9. No Advent calendar this year. when my siblings and I were kids we would get them. Some years with chocolate other years with pictures. This is my first Christmas with the MLT Club. Weekly videos from MLT is a very nice present. Thank you

  10. A lovely picture

  11. Great start!
As a kid my grandma had a nice advent calendar which she had kept for years and every year replaced the chocolates! I remember running to it when it was time to open the window. Now I have the MLT calendar, can’t beat it!
Now, is Manfred Mann a clue? You have a smile so bright… ?
Last time I checked Rubber Soul was making an appearance.

    1. I’m not sure if confirming clues is giving new clues in itself 😉
Thanks for joining us again for this year’s calendar and speaking of calendars … !!! An unexpected fab parcel found its way onto our doorstep yesterday! We will send you an email as well but wanted to say a quick thank you here too, they are wonderful ♥

    2. I’m not sure if confirming or denying clues is giving new clues in itself 😉

  12. I still consider myself an MLT Club rookie; I joined well after the calendar from last year but I checked the whole thing out. And now, four songs in four weeks, plus the photography, writing, mastering and planning etc., all of which is susceptible to being changed on the fly to meet a daily deadline with a quality result. A remarkable display of talent and dedication to keep all this on schedule! I can’t speak for anyone else but I suspect I am nonetheless: this is a great shot to open the calendar, and I am very much looking forward to what you have in store coming up. Thank you!

    1. We’re glad you’re here and part of it this year, thanks for coming along!

  13. Great picture!!! You both look beautiful as ever. Is that a Martin guitar that Mona is holding? (can’t make out the emblem). Looks just like mine. Never ate a Advent calendar(hate getting paper cuts on the tongue). Looking forward to the next event day picture
    Cheers, Ron

    1. Yup, that’s a Martin! It’s the same one I play in a lot of the live videos, a wonderful “custom” Dreadnought. Fab instruments!

      1. What makes it custom.

      2. I don’t think you can get that exact model off the racks, someone must specifically order it to come with the specifications that it has. It was a very generous present by Steve from Miami but I am not sure where he got it from or if he had it made like that / if it had an owner before him.

It has a Roland Cosm Preamp Pickup built in, which I believe came out of a short lived partnership between the two companies during the time it got made and you don’t see many of them around.

It sounds and feels fantastic! It’s definitely one of my favorite and most played acoustic guitars.

      3. Oh so cool. My twin brother bought me my Dreadnought for retirement present last year. I have a friend who’s husband works at the Martin guitar factory in Nazareth Pennsylvania & got a good deal on mine. Thanks for responding to my post

  14. I’ve never had or eaten an Advent calendar chocolate or non chocolate, never grew up with one so wasn’t aware until I was older into my teens/20s before having heard what Advent calendar was…. With my Nut allergies, I cannot eat the chocolate ones as not guaranteed Nutfree…. Besides your Advent Calendar versions are far more enjoyable…. Thankyou for creating another one this year…. Gotta Luv This Trio… MLLBTrio ?

    1. It’s so interesting how traditions differ from country to country. We always loved our advent calendars as children, since they always rang in the Christmas season for us. Plus you can have a little treat each day and build up excitement for the big event on the 24th (our Austrian “main” day for Christmas). At least you’re guaranteed that the MLT Calendar will indeed be nut free 😉

      1. Yes, and that is a guarantee I’m safe with Thanks in part to Team MLT, I can safely devour this Advent Calendar??

      2. PS, I have” No More Worries” niw?

    2. Me too Jacki,
Advent calendars aren’t really a thing down under as far as I’m aware.
Because it’s summer down here we’re all at the beach and cooking BBQs instead of opening calendars!

  15. You know, before MLT Club, I never knew what an “Advent Calendar” was. To me it became something very special exclusive to the Club here leading up to Christmas. I just did a Wikipedia search and now I see. There is something new to learn all the time. So looking forward to this years Advent Calendar. Great to see this photo of the 3 of you, Mona, Lisa, and Lampi Bampi.

    1. Oh wow, that’s really interesting. Both you and Jacki wrote that you’re not really familiar with the concept of an Advent Calendar so it seems there’s not a common tradition in Canada. I just did some googling and they are definitely the most popular in Germany and Austria where almost every child and many adults have one each year. However, we can also find them in many shops here in the UK. Filled with some type of chocolate or sometimes just little pictures. We’re glad we provided your first virtual Advent Calendar experience 🙂 Hope you’ll enjoy this year’s too!

      1. Lisa. Well I’m glad my very first Advent Calendar experience was your virtual Advent Calendar here last year which was just awesome! Thanks.
