Our Last Winter Vacation – Photos

Growing up we used to go skiing every winter. We were lucky that our grandparents had owned a house in Salzburg in the Alps where we could stay once a year. Our Dad taught us how to ski as soon as we could stand up straight. We started when we were just 3 1/2 year old whippersnappers! 😉

Many of our favourite childhood memories were made on snowy slopes in some of the world’s prettiest skiing regions.

This photo album is from our very last of these annual winter holidays we took in 2011. All the winters since have been filled up with music and video projects and didn’t leave us with the opportunity to keep this skiing tradition up.

Now that we’re living in the rainy UK , whenever we decided to take a week off, we rather spent it in a warmer climate anyway to make up for the lack of sunshine during the year 😉 Even better when we get to combine those trips with some video shooting, like we did with our 2019 adventures in Lanzarote.

Actually, we did just that on this 2011 winter holiday, too – you might remember that we filmed the Everly Brothers’ cover “All I Have To Do Is Dream” during our time there:

We also made a Behind-The-Scenes clip about this snowy winter for the MLT Club – as one of the first exclusive videos after the Club opened in late 2018. Many of you were probably not members back then so if you’ve not seen it yet, you can catch up on it here.

But now, let’s get to the photos! Looking at them might help you cool off during this crazy heatwave (if you happen to be going through one, too).

Stay groovy,

Mona & Lisa

  1. Beautiful country! Snow was a rare treat for us growing up where we did in South Carolina, USA. So, we just loved it when it snowed. We had so much fun with sliding down hills on whatever we could find, usually an old wagon with no wheels or anything. Or, a trash can lid, wood slab, just anything we could find. Nobody had a sled, because we only got snow once a year if that.
Looks like you had fun, too! Love the pictures.

  2. Fantastic scenery and beautiful photos brightened up with the appearance of the fabulous MonaLisa Twins ?

  3. Such a great job on the harmonies. Some believe that the Everly brothers were the best at harmonies…….and you did the song so well, too. Loved it when you went down tempo in the middle of the song. Very good job. You two can do anything musically and I am always amazed at how well you do it. Mike.

  4. Beautiful photos. Looks like an awesome place to have fun and create great memories. We didn’t get much snow growing up, so when we did it was a real treat.

  5. I really enjoyed these winter pics of the mountains. I used to love the snow growing up in northern California as a boy. Used to spend as many winter days as possible skiing in the Sierra Nevada in the ’60s. Later when I was married, we moved to Boston in 1984, the same year my daughter Megan was born and I had her up on skis as soon as she could walk – and two years after that as soon as her little brother could walk. After moving to Idaho in 1995 we all loved the skiing that the Rockies provided. As a boy scout leader we used to take the scout troop wilderness camping every month -all year long. We would teach the boys how to build igloos and sleep in snow caves. (Megan always came along too). But, I gotta admit all these years later I don’t want anything to do with the snow other than enjoying the scenery through a thermal pane window next to a roaring fireplace. Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos!

  6. You must really miss those trips to Salzburg. It sounds and looks like an awesome place. I knew a lady from Salzburg back in the mid seventies. She lived in my home city for a few years before returning to her homeland.

I remember that beautiful video from the first night I discovered you on YouTube. This song shows your gradual transition from those young teenagers we saw in your first concert and in the US and Australia. Thanks for sharing all those beautiful photos. And yes, who is riding that horse, anyone we know? ?❤️

  7. SPECTACULAR scenery! WOW! Thank you!

  8. Beautiful photos of some beautiful scenery and two beautiful 17 year olds!
Now I see where the snowy scene in the “Two of Us” video came from.
Pictures of snow is all I want to see – my hands hurt just looking at the snow!

  9. Thank you for sharing these photo’s. I love the seasons my self and from October thru January, in my book? All food is fat free! LOL…But love walking in the snow and sled riding and maybe it is me? But I feel time slows down just a bit to take in the wonders of this earth!! You both looked like you had a good time and fun and that is what it is all about!! God bless you both!

  10. New snow, sunny blue skies, perfect. Thank you for sharing these. It is so nice of you to share your travels with us. You are very good at presenting these get-away’s as must sees.
“Alexa, add visit the Alps to my bucket list”
“I have just added a list of LP’s to your bucket list”
    sigh

  11. That horse laying on it’s back. Reminds of my dog doing the same thing scratching her back . I call it the Curly Shuffle. Hope you know the three stooges .

    1. What breathtaking scenery!!
I love the snow, we don’t get to much in the south, but when we do its like a national holiday. Even the drivers keep going the same speed, and can’t understand why they can’t slow down??.
I absolutely adore someone that can make beautiful art with a chain saw. Immense amount of talent.
I watched both videos, the bench Lisa was modeling on was used in your video Won’t You Listen Now.
Lisa has me cracking up when her hands get cold on the chaise lounge?????
Exciting to hear you speaking German. Whew! Thank goodness for English subtitles.
Tu parles francais? Je parle francais un petite. Merci beaucoup femmes?❤

      1. Know what you mean with snow in the south. I lived in Texas for 10 years. It snowed one time for about ten inched. Next day temp went up. No more snow. . I love the Curly Scuffle. Hey Moe…

    2. The Boys!!! Love the Stooges!!!
And yes that’s the Curly Shuffle.
By the way ladies, it’s on You Tube.??????

      1. Seeing this Moe started Beatles mop top hair

      2. What a scream! Thanks for sharing Joe. (a scream is colloquial meaning ”hilariously or ridiculously funny”)

  12. What a beautiful and enchanting place your grandparents lived that you were able to visit! Love how the snow makes everything so quiet and peaceful, and your pictures bring across that feeling. That country road in the snow with open fields and mountain back drop is magnificent. Lots of wonderful beautiful pictures of the both of you enjoying all the beauty around you in such a magical place. A true winter wonderland, like your song from the Christmas album. What an adorable little brown pony too. Hope you both get to do some fun skiing one of these days. Thanks for sharing these breathtaking photos, enjoyed seeing them much. 🙂

  13. Oh Forgot ! Who’s that on the horse ?

  14. Nice pictures of the Snow. It looks like Heaven on earth when it snow a lot. I love the 4 season especially Fall & Winter. You both look like you were having fun. Time to go in and have a hot cup of cocoa.

  15. Though, I’m not a Winter fan, just like it on Xmas Day really, and Spring/Summer can resume …though, it does remind me of Ottawa winters, well, Canadian Winters for most of Canada ( Jung has it good…lol)…as a kid I guess I somewhat tolerated it better, but not now… These photos would make great jigsaw photos ??… seeing your perspective on Winter, I can appreciate it through your eyes, photos…I like notbhavingbto bundle up like an Eskimo, to keep warm…I’d prefer roasting in warmth, but not with humidity, I draw the line at humidity… Ok, Thankyou for sharing, allowing me to temporarily cool off during the insane heatwave happening here again…????❄
