If I Needed Someone (with Mike Massé) – Collaboration

Official Release Date: 6th June 2019

When musician Mike Massé came over to tour England last week, he stopped by at our studio to film/record this cover of “If I Needed Someone” with us – a  three part harmony Beatles song that seemed just perfect for a collaboration.

Besides While My Guitar Gently Weeps it’s the only other George Harrison song we’ve ever recorded, and in our opinion it’s up there with anything Paul and John did around that period!

One of the wonderful side effects of being artists and musicians is that we get the chance to meet and work with other creative people. And this can be very inspiring, motivating and fun!

The song will get its official release next week but MLT Club members are getting early access to it already. Unfortunately, Mike was running into some unexpected issues with UMG (Universal Music Group) cracking down on YouTube covers, not allowing him to upload the video. Normally, they simply claim the ad revenue in exchange for artists being allowed to post their videos (easy money for them) but apparently not in this case.

If we can’t resolve the issue we might try uploading it to our channel. If that still doesn’t work we’ll have to post it to Facebook/Twitter/Vimeo/Instagram only. It’s a big bummer but we’ll get the video out there one way or another.

If you haven’t yet seen our live version of “Africa” with Mike during our show in Liverpool you can watch it here.

Lots of love and stay groovy,
Mona & Lisa

  1. I love your cover of “Africa”. Really love! I love this just as much — maybe better . . . ? Your voices blend perfectly. <3

  2. I can’t believe that this is the first time that I have seen this! The three of you perform so well together…”Africa” is my favorite of the songs that you have done with Mike Masse but this is so very close. Always a joy seeing Lisa playing the Hofner bass and watching clips of Mona performing on her drum kit!.

    Well-done!!!

  3. Thank you for this one (too). I love the three-part harmony. And most of all I like the the way you mess with my stupid head (again) – in a wonderful, kind and positively positive way, to be sure. I guess it’s only psycologically natural the tendency to fix on an (unjustified) idea that ‘Mona plays this’ and ‘Lisa plays that’, … you know… Lisa: good job with the base! Mona: good job with the lead! And what do I know – There’s no telling what is whose forte with you two, is there! Pick up anything – with your talent you create joyful, skillful and enjoyable _music_ with them. Blessed you twins are!

  4. Ladies you really delivered the goods on this one.
If you get a chance LIsten to The Beatles in concert at BUDDAKON IN JAPAN,
George vocals delivery was really bad’and he new it as he glanced to Paul and John.

Ringo looked like he was not with it.His facial features showed it. It wasn’t your typical
    Ringo smilingout behind the drums.

Did you ever digest that parcell I sent you about THE BEATLES recordings

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GLENN

  5. Great rendition of George’s. If I Needed Someone. A great song from Rubber Soul. Mike,Mona and Lisa well done… I am assuming this was shot in Liverpool. Great to see the Beatles statues. George was my favorite Beatle. LOVED IT!!!!!

    1. Thanks Joseph! Yes, we filmed this around Mathew Street (where the Cavern Club is) and the Liverpool Docks. Glad you enjoyed it 🙂

      1. Hi Lisa Thanks for responding. Quick two question. Any chance one day you
can do a cover of Taxman. I think you would be great for that song. Also since you are identical twins who’s the oldest? You or Mona

      2. We played Taxman at our last ever show at the Cavern Club. We’re uploading clips from that performance to the MLT Club every month so we’ll get to Taxman eventuall. https://test2.monalisa-twins.com/mlt-club-live-at-the-cavern-club/
        And I am 5 minutes older 🙂

      3. Thanks Lisa – Have a great Sunday

      4. Yeh yeh!! another treat to look forward to 😀

  6. I’ve always loved this song. I completely agree with you Mona & Lisa. Its as great as as any Lennon & McCartney song on Rubber Soul. Superb cover. Great vocals by Mike Massé, faithful to the original. Love the guitar. Gorgeous harmonies. Love your expressions as you gaze at Eleanor Rigby.

  7. If there were ever a cover that comes close to topping the original, this is one of them! Absolutely SMASHING!!!

  8. Fantastic song, loved the harmonies. I must admit George has always been my favorite Beatle, thanks Mona,Lisa and Mike for this wonderful cover.

  9. Hey Girls… ?❤ ..about George.. many ou us have a dream.. see you sing Here Comes the Sun ! ?

  10. Lovely, the harmonies were impeccable! One of my top 10 Beatles tunes. I need to pull the 360/12 out of it’s case and relearn this one.

  11. Truly brilliant

  12. I was thinking about what to write and I don’t know. No words of wisdom. Very beautiful! I’m waiting the realise to spread it out.

  13. I simply loved .. again.. your voices harmony make me happy., your eyes smile when you sing.. and my soul smile too .thanks for more these Happy moments..love you girls ?❤

  14. Wow one of my favourite fab 4 tracks being covered brilliantly. Can’t stop playing it. Lisa your bass line is excellent. Papa Rudi beware.!!
Have picked up my guitar ( Les Paul custom pro ) and am playing along with you guys. Well a man can dream can’t he. lol.

  15. So incredibly good! It just doesn’t get better than this. Three part harmony perfection. Super tight instrumentation. Simply awesome audio quality and fun video. You all really seem to be enjoying doing this together and your joy and enthusiasm warms the heart and rocks the soul. If you can’t get here alone, maybe Mike is the missing piece that can deliver you to America. It would be an epic tour! Just make sure that you have equal billing. As good as Mike is, he is the one that is fortunate to be appearing with MLT. Mona, Lisa, it is the two of you that supply the magic!!!

  16. … lost for words…
… those tight, tight harmonies, the unmistakable Rickenbacker 360/12, macca bass lines, superb mix… whew!! Mike certainly does his part impeccably, but the Wonderful Wagners take it to rarefied heights. George had a fastidious love of harmonies. This was the token George song The Beatles played on their last tour.
If I didn’t love this song, If I didn’t have an unexplainable connection with George, maybe my eyes wouldn’t have welled up, maybe I wouldn’t know George’s love for you.

  17. You all did a fantastic job on this video, would love to see Mona drum a whole song . I hope the three of you can get together in the future, would love to see you do a whole album together with videos, that would be a groovy treat.

  18. Another real treat from MLT! I’m glad you hooked up with Mike. Thanks for the early release for club members.

  19. Awesome cover! I loved it and seeing you both work with Mike was great. You looked to be having so much fun. I loved the snippet of Mona playing the drums. And loved the harmonies and watching Lisa on the bass. All three of you just make the video great, and so much fun!
Love, hugs and smiles from my side of the Pond. 🙂

  20. The three of you make a Supergroup. I hope you can work together in the future. I wish you could go with Mike on his USA tour. I would see you in Ann Arbor and Chicago! You sound great together. I love how well you play and sing this song.

  21. One of my favorite Beatles songs……but then most of them are. You guys did a great job on this one…..as usual. The line: “Carve your number on my wall, And maybe you will get a call from me.” sounds like a Johnism. I know this is George’s song but that line sounds like John to me.

  22. Wow… You’ve gone and done it again… Groovy Goosebumps…. There’s something Music Magical with you 3 when you sing… It’s so natural as though you’ve been performing for a long time… Triple Trio Kudos on this… It just amplifies your Intertwining Harmonies and the variety of instrumentation used musts boosts the nutune-tritional vibe of this song. Caliber enriched and fortified…. Music TasteBuds Delighted… When released officially next week… It’s going to be a Humdinger Dandy to all who view it… Thankyou for sharing… Made my Friday Fab!!

  23. Wow! That’s just….Sticky Toffee Pudding WITH sprinkles! I only wish Mike’s U.S. tour dates could put him a little further west…..with you guys along to sing with him.

    Seattle Bob

  24. Ooh, a song from my (and your) favorite Beatles album… 😉
    Lovely ^_^

  25. Just when you think it couldn’t get any better.

  26. Great Rendition! As usual… 🙂

  27. This was always one of my favorite tunes because of John and Paul’s harmonies on the backing vocals. (“What goes on” is another) Fantastic job on the cover! And Mona- there is nothing that sounds like that Rickenbacher! Love it!

  28. Sweet! I’m going to try and catch Mike in Boston, and hope that someday you hip twin type songbirds will get to touring in the US. Think New Hampshire… 😉

  29. Awesomely wonderful music and video ?????

  30. Amazing! Loved it! It appears that Lisa has been paying attention to daddy Rudi with all those bass licks. Mona’s guitar work and tambourine was very smooth. Just, wicked good!

  31. Oh wow ladies! This is the Beatles song I’ve really been getting into lately on my Rubber Soul vinyl. Everytime I hear it I’ve been thinking I hope MLT cover this one next. You must have sensed my thoughts over the ether. It’s such a great song and your version is absolutely superb and does great justice to it. You guys are fantastic, just love it. Thank you!

    1. Ladies, your hallmark signature is to take a great classic, and make it come alive. You launched this one into outer space!

  32. Very awesome! Loved seeing Mona rocking those drums! And Lisa is a natural on that bass! Well done all!

  33. This is one of the songs I’ve been hoping you would cover for quite some time because of the 3 part harmony that makes this a classic Beatles tune. Getting Mike to provide the male bottom to the harmony mix does the trick. I hope you can keep this one up on YouTube since it will be a hit. Mona and Lisa got to put those ORANGE guitar picks to work on this one.

  34. My favourite of George’s songs when he was with the Beatles. Well done. The 12 string was spot on.

  35. Wow! What a perfect song! Loved how many different instruments were used. Love seeing Mona on Drums and Tambourine. Lisa on Bass again was a killer. Loved seeing around Liverpool.
Mike did an amazing job too.
Question; is that Mona’s Red Ricky at the start? And what is that on Mona’s drum? (14″ tom) thanks ladies for another amazing video
